Introducing Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio
In April, the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, on the shores of Italy’s beautiful Lake Como, will reopen its doors for the 2020 season having added yet another accolade to its collection: Number One Resort in Italy, as voted by Travel+Leisure World’s Best Awards 2019. The hotel was also rated Number Three in the whole of Europe.
Such recognition is not unsurprising – with a history that stretches back to 1873, the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni has had almost 147 years to perfect its unique blend of old-world charm, modern amenities, a Michelin-starred restaurant, and second-to-none service.
With its breath-taking lake-side location in the medieval village of Bellagio, the hotel’s classical elegance and magnificent grounds have been conserved and enhanced by the Bucher family, who have owned and managed the property since 1918.
According to Gianfranco Bucher, Chief Executive Officer, it is this continuity of management, pride in heritage, and shared family passion that makes his hotel unique.
“We are, literally, one-of-a-kind in an era of chain-style resorts and multinational hotel groups.”
While the hotel is justifiably proud of its long and star-studded history – Winston Churchill, Jackie Kennedy, Roosevelt, the Rothchilds, as well as countless cinema celebrities have strolled the grounds – the hotel has never rested on its laurels.
A nod to the past but an eye to the future
The traditionally furnished 94 rooms and suites combine timeless elegance with modern conveniences and are frequently refurbished.
Under the visionary work of chef Ettore Bocchia, the father of Italian molecular cuisine, the hotel’s Mistral Restaurant – one of its two restaurants – at the Grand has held a Michelin star since 2004.
The Hotel also boasts two pools (one of which is indoors), a gym for cardio-fitness and for Pilates, a tennis court and squash court, and the elegant Villa Serbelloni Spa with a full menu of treatments for both men and women.
“For all that is special about our location and our history, what keeps guests coming back year in and year out, is our commitment to seamless service that ‘goes that extra step,” said Mr. Bucher.
“Most of our staff have been with us for many years, and there is a real sense of being family. That contributes to an experience where, though staying in the lap of luxury, our guests feel as comfortable and relaxed as if they were staying in the private villa that was the first chapter in the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni story.”
Rates available from €500 per night.
