Sunlover Reef Cruises has released a video celebrating Living Coral, Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2019, to usher in the New Year on the Great Barrier Reef.

Produced by Calypso Reef Imagery film maker and marine biologist Stuart Ireland, the stunning footage shows the Great Barrier Reef regenerating by showering Moore Reef with Living Coral-coloured eggs.

Sunlover Reef Cruises Group Marketing Manager Sarah Butler said she was delighted to discover the coral eggs floating alongside the Sunlover pontoon last month were the same colour selected by the company that sets the trend for new season colours.

Mr Ireland has been filming the annual synchronised coral spawn every year since 1996 and this year took stunning footage of the coral-pink eggs being released.

“Millions of these eggs have transformed into coral larvae which has settled on the ocean floor to form the next generation of living coral for this spectacular World Heritage area,” he said.

“Hopefully we will see the Living Coral colour among the kaleidoscope of colourful corals and marine creatures on the Reef for years to come.

“The Great Barrier Reef is among the first places in the world to see in the New Year and as a bucket-list destination should be on everyone’s New Year resolution list.”
