The South African Tourism Roadshow kicked off last night in Perth, with almost 200 local travel agents being treated to an educational and entertaining evening. This year the roadshows are being hosted by South African comedian and South African Tourism ambassador, Urzila Carlson.

Urzila Carlson will take attendees on an interactive and educational journey of South Africa, as they travel across the provinces to learn about the diverse country’s fine cuisine and wine, warm and welcoming culture, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences including safari to spot the Big 5 amongst the unique South African wildlife.

Some of the destination’s many highlights will be showcased through a series of videos featuring Urzila following her recent trip to South Africa. 19 South African operators ranging from local tourism boards to hotels and 10 Australian and New Zealand wholesalers will also be on hand to provide agents with their invaluable insight and product knowledge.

Speaking on behalf of South African Tourism, Australasia Hub Head, Mosilo Sofonia, said the event will provide the perfect opportunity for the travel industry to get to know what South Africa has to offer.

“It was fantastic to start this year’s South African Tourism Roadshow in Perth and bring together travel agents from across the state. Attendance has been overwhelming with the show providing a platform for agents to build unforgettable itineraries for their clients. Our very own ambassador, Urzila Carlson, certainly provided plenty of laughs, showcasing highlights from her visit to the country last month. We can’t wait to get back on the road and welcome travel agents in Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland and Melbourne to show them exactly what South Africa has to offer.”

To bring the show to life, South African Tourism partnered with airline partner, South African Airways (SAA).

While the occasion provided an engaging and educational experience, it was also an evening filled to the brim with excitement and prizes that saw two lucky agents win a spot on a familiarisation trip to SA to ‘Meet South Africa’ for themselves.

Agents who join one of the remaining Roadshow events will also have the opportunity to win a spot on the familiarisation simply by attending the night. Those who don’t win on the night will also get another chance to win one of six spots on the familiarisation trip by entering the South African Specialist Competition at https://www.southafrica.net/gl/en/trade/page/sa-specialist-competition.
