Sofitel New York unveils ‘France-Amérique on Display’
To mark the 75th anniversary of France-Amérique – a popular bilingual publication focused on French-American culture and lifestyle – Sofitel New York will host an exhibit featuring 20 of French artist Olivier Tallec’s original covers. The collection will be on display in the hotel’s lobby through October 2018 and is free and open to the public.
“Utilizing Olivier’s creative work, this exhibit serves as a reminder of the significance of the American-French spirit within the Sofitel and France-Amérique brands,” said Marie-Paule Nowlis, hotel manager of Sofitel New York. “Our hope is that guests and members of the public will come and enjoy the collection and leave with a better understanding of the relationship between these two great cultures.”
A well-known illustrator for French newspapers such as Libération and Le Monde, as well as numerous books and comics, Tallec is adept in the art of humorous illustrations for adults, combining dark humor and the absurd in only a handful of brushstrokes. Since 2013, his off-the-wall style has been showcased on France-Amérique’s front covers—each one a powerful visual that evokes a greater message found within the magazine’s pages.
Founded by France Libre exiles during World War II, France-Amérique evolved significantly since its inception as a French language newspaper in 1943. In its current form, the monthly publication is the only French-English bilingual magazine in the United States, with content created for an audience of American Francophiles, passionate about French culture and art-de-vivre.
