Name: Prin Yooprasert
Position: Director Route Management – Australia, Africa and Middle East
Company: THAI Airways International
When and why did you join the industry?
I joined Thai Airways International Ltd in November 1985 as graduate. Working for the airline has always been an attractive prospect for graduates.
What do you like most about your job?
I have the opportunity to explore many places and work with people from around the world.
Working as an airline director is one of the best jobs a person can have. It gives you so many opportunities to learn and gain experience, especially the chance to be an expatriate. However, demand for these types has never been higher. If you can overcome this challenge, you will be successful.
What’s one of the biggest achievements of your career so far?
We reached the revenue target set by Thai Airways three times in a row while I was working in Kuala Lumpur from 2005 to 2006. The market was just starting to adapt to the arrival of low cost airlines which has flattened the revenue of many airlines.
What’s the best advice ever given to you and who gave it?
My father taught me a lifelong lesson –when abroad learn everything you can before trying to change something. It’s faultless advice.
Who do you admire and see as a role model in the travel and / or hospitality industry?
My inspiration is Richard Branson. He is unique in that he is not afraid to criticise the travel and tourism industry.
What destinations are on your travel bucket list?
Fiji is on my bucket list.
What’s a memorable travel experience you’ve had (good or bad)?
My most memorable travel experience is definitely when I visited Entabeni Reserve in South Africa. Whilst there, I experienced a helicopter ride and watched lions in close proximity. I have not had any bad travel experiences.
What are three things you always take with you when travelling?
I always take three things on every trip. Firstly, I take my second pair of glasses just in case. I also always have my mobile phone to keep in touch with my family and friends and my credit cards for emergencies.
